Important considerations
- Do not stretch through sharp pain, numbness, or new swelling.
- Avoid exercises not yet cleared in your post-surgical protocol.
- Stop and contact your care team if you hear a pop or feel joint instability.
- Follow weight-bearing and ROM limits until your surgeon updates them.
How to use
- Sit or lie in the position your PT demonstrated for each exercise.
- Loop the strap around your foot or hold ends comfortably in your hands.
- Move slowly into stretch positions without bouncing or forcing range.
- Hold only for the time your therapist prescribed, then return to start.
- Breathe steadily and keep your surgical area supported as needed.
- Log exercises if your home program asks you to track reps and sets.
Tips & tricks
- Warm up with gentle movement before deeper stretching if your PT advises it.
- Use the strap to extend reach, not to yank joints past comfortable limits.
- Store the strap where you will see it as a reminder for your home program.
- Wash the strap periodically if it becomes soiled from foot placement.
Good to know
- Straps are common tools in knee and hip home exercise programs.
- They let you control intensity gradually as flexibility improves.
- Your PT will usually progress exercises as healing allows.
